Guided canoe and kayak float trips on the Buffalo National River — the first national river designated in the United States, established in 1972, and one of the few free-flowing undammed rivers remaining in the lower 48. The Buffalo cuts 135 miles east through the Ozark Plateau, threading limestone and dolomite bluffs that rise more than 500 feet above the water at Big Bluff, Hemmed-in Hollow, and Roark Bluff. Our trips run multi-day camping floats through the Upper, Middle, and Lower districts, with put-ins at Ponca, Kyles Landing, and Pruitt; gravel-bar campsites and side hikes to Hemmed-in Hollow Falls — at 209 feet the tallest waterfall between the Rockies and the Appalachians — are signature stops. Wildlife includes the reintroduced Arkansas elk herd that grazes the Boxley Valley meadows at dawn and dusk, black bear, river otter, and smallmouth bass that draw fly anglers from across the Mid-South. We outfit shuttles, canoes, kayaks, dry bags, and overnight camping packages from our long-running base in Ponca.
Guided whitewater kayak and canoe trips on the Mulberry River in the Ozark National Forest — class II and III spring rapids tumbling through hardwood forest and limestone bluff terrain on what is widely regarded as Arkansas's finest whitewater river. The Mulberry runs hard from late winter snowmelt through April spring rains, with named drops like High Bank, Indian Creek, and the Boy Scout Hole producing technical maneuvering through ledge holes and rock gardens. Our outfitter base sits between Cass and Oark on the upper river, where put-ins at Wolf Pen, Turner Bend, and Byrd's offer trips from a few miles to full-day descents into the Mulberry River Wilderness corridor. Riparian forest along the banks holds white oak, hickory, and shortleaf pine, and wildlife includes river otter, smallmouth bass, and the seasonal warblers passing through the Boston Mountains on spring migration. We offer shuttle service, raft rentals, guided kayak instruction, and primitive riverside camping at our basecamp on the Cass road.
Arkansas has positioned itself as one of the South's premier outdoor adventure destinations, centered on the Buffalo National River — the first national river designated in the United States — and the Ozark and Ouachita mountain systems. Guided float trips on the Buffalo draw paddlers from across the region, while the Kings River, Mulberry River, and Upper Caddo provide additional whitewater kayaking and canoe touring. The Ozark Highlands Trail and Ouachita National Recreation Trail anchor a growing guided hiking industry, and the mountain biking network centered on Bentonville has reached national destination status. Guided horseback riding through river valleys and upland forest rounds out the state's adventure offerings.
