ACE Adventure Resort

Oak Hill, WV
Whitewater RaftingZipline Courses

ACE Adventure Resort is one of the premier outdoor adventure destinations in the eastern United States, situated at the gateway to New River Gorge National Park near Oak Hill, West Virginia. The resort runs guided whitewater raft trips on the New River — featuring exhilarating Class III–IV rapids through a 1,000-foot-deep gorge carved over 65 million years — and on the legendary Gauley River, whose dam-release season each fall unleashes some of the most technically demanding Class IV–V whitewater in North America. Beyond the rivers, ACE offers a multi-line zipline canopy tour soaring above the gorge, lift-served mountain biking on purpose-built singletrack, and outdoor climbing routes suited to all skill levels. The property sits on over 1,500 acres with full resort lodging, making it a natural basecamp for multi-day adventures in the gorge region.

Rivers

Lansing, WV
Whitewater Rafting

Rivers is one of the original commercial whitewater outfitters in the New River Gorge corridor, operating out of Lansing, West Virginia since the early days of organized rafting in the region. The company runs guided raft trips on both the New River — where continuous Class III–IV rapids like the Keeneys and Double Z thunder through the oldest river gorge in the western hemisphere — and the Gauley River, whose controlled dam releases from Summersville Lake create a 28-mile gauntlet of Class IV–V hydraulics each autumn. Guides are deeply experienced with the hydrology and geology of both rivers, providing educational context on the Appalachian landscape alongside the whitewater action. Rivers' trips range from family-friendly half-day New River floats to full-day Gauley expeditions, with all gear, transportation, and post-trip meals included in most packages.

Adventure Touring in West Virginia

West Virginia adventure tourism is built on rivers and on the reclaimed coal country of its coalfield counties. The New and Gauley rivers provide the most celebrated guided whitewater raft experience in the eastern United States — the Lower Gauley's class V rapids during fall dam releases draw paddlers from across the country. Seneca Rocks draws guided rock climbing and hiking to one of the most distinctive geological formations east of the Rockies. Guided mountain biking at Snowshoe Mountain Resort and in the Blackwater Canyon has grown significantly, and guided hunting for bear, turkey, and deer in the Monongahela National Forest and surrounding private timber land is among the most active in the Mid-Atlantic region.
