Southern Yosemite Mountain Guides (SYMG) operates guided hiking, backpacking, and rock climbing trips in Yosemite National Park and the surrounding Sierra Nevada wilderness from their base at Bass Lake on the park's southern boundary, providing access to both the iconic Valley floor and the remote high country above 11,000 feet. Day hike programs cover classic routes—Mist Trail to Half Dome, Panorama Trail, and the Tuolumne Meadows plateau—with naturalist guides interpreting the Valley's glacially sculpted geology, mixed conifer-giant sequoia ecosystems, and human history from the Ahwahneechee to the Conservation Era. Multi-day backpacking expeditions cross the Illilouette Basin, Clark Range, and the Ansel Adams Wilderness beyond the southeast park boundary, camping in the granite cirques and glacial tarns of the Cathedral Range. Rock climbing instruction ranges from single-pitch beginner slabs on Valley granite to multi-pitch crack climbing on Cathedral Rocks and Leaning Tower approaches, with AMGA-certified guides trained on Yosemite's distinctive crack systems. SYMG holds a Yosemite National Park Commercial Use Authorization and Sierra National Forest outfitter permit, one of a small number licensed to guide throughout the park.
