Drive twenty minutes past the last casino and Nevada changes completely. Red sandstone walls stack up at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area outside Las Vegas; hundreds of miles northeast, alpine lakes sit under the peaks of the Ruby Mountains. In between lies more high desert and raw mountain range than almost any state can claim.
