Horseback Riding in Virginia

Virginia runs from Blue Ridge summits down to tidewater flats, and the guided-trip scene stretches the whole way with it. In the west, the Appalachians, Shenandoah National Park chief among them, carry guided hiking, rock climbing, and horseback rides across ridgeline after ridgeline. The Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge puts guided kayaks into blackwater wetland unlike anywhere else in the Commonwealth. Along the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries, kayak and stand-up paddleboard tours trace tidal marshes and old waterways, with guides folding in the natural history as you go.
